Ruud Gullit has been sacked as coach of struggling Russian Premier League side Terek Grozny, after the Dutch legend lost a match he was ordered to win by the club's president.

Prior to Tuesday's showdown with fellow-strugglers Amkar Prem, Gullit was told by Ramzan Kadyrov that he would be dismissed if the team were beaten again.

And the Chechen outfit went on to lose the match 1-0 prompting Kadyrov to tell the Interfax news agency: "Gullit will no longer train the team.

Kadyrov, who had earlier implied that Gullit had spent too much time drinking in bars, instead of coaching the players, added: "Unfortunately, he was unable to prove his mettle as a trainer.

The decision came as no real surprise after Chechen leader Kadyrov had posted an extraordinary statement on the government's official website, saying: "Gullit has to know he was not invited so that he could go hiding in nightclubs and discos, but to work at a football club."

Sovietsky Sport daily said Gullit was "shocked" by Kadyrov's comments and had promised do his best to win Tuesday's match.

However, a last minute own goal saw the club slump to defeat and speaking to a reporter after the match, 48-year-old Gullit said: "I don't think it would have mattered it I had won or lost."

The result means Terek are now deep in relegation trouble, lying 14th in the 16-team division with just three wins from their 13 matches -- scoring only nine goals in the process
