From her red lace mask and hat in 2009, to her meat dress in 2010 – it’s no wonder #Whatwillgagawear was trending on Twitter before the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards kicked-off on Sunday night.
This time around, Lady Gaga didn’t shock viewers with blood-spattered lingerie, or a hat that wouldn’t make it past airport security. Instead, Gaga donned a pair of black slacks and a white T-Shirt as her musical alter ego, Joe Calderone.
Ironically, it was the most street-friendly outfit we’ve seen her sport. But, not to worry, these celebs dressed crazy enough to make up for Gaga’s tamer look:
Katy Perry’s many costume changes – some more eccentric than others – filled the void left by Gaga’s more typical look. Perry arrived on the black carpet wearing a kimono-like dress and toting an umbrella to match her new pink ‘do.
Later on in the evening, Perry changed into a geometric skirt and stop, complete with a yellow cube on her head. Perry would have fit in better at a Green Bay Packers’ game with that cheesehead-like hat. She also donned a sparkly black number with broken records making up the neckline. Her royal wedding-worthy record fascinator completed the look.
LMFAO “Party Rockers,” Redfoo and SkyBlu, sparkled at the VMAs. Redfoo (right) donned a two-piece silver getup, complete with wings and a handprint over the crotch. SkyBlue (left) wore tight red pants, a velvet blazer and personalized bling around his neck.
The most eccentric look of the evening belonged to Nicki Minaj, who dressed like a toddler playing dress up. A printed mask covered her mouth. She wore socks, stuffed animals and bows in place of shoes. And she toted what could be a chew toy for a really large animal. Not to mention the ice cream cone necklace hanging around her neck.
Lil Wayne modeled a pair of blue, Ralph Lauren boxer briefs during his VMA performance. The rapper also wore a pair of tight, animal-printed pants and shoes with different colored laces.
Justin Bieber channeled Britney Spears, who donned a snake during her 2001 VMAperformance. Biebs had a smaller version of Spears’ slithery friend wrapped around his hand as he walked the black carpet.
UK performer Jessie J, who broke her ankle during a recent performance, wore a bedazzled leotard and tights to match her Swarovski crystal-encrusted boot and crutches.
commentary:i think that the Katy Perry this awards was very awesome for her because hi beat all of them in the vma and she won because the song e.t and she most be very happy.
